Lee Beacon 2022

The Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations (2 Jun) 12noon –23.00

Following a service at St Faith’s at 10.00 the event will take the form of a big street party, with families welcomed to the seafront and are encouraged to bring tables, chairs, blankets and picnics to create a BIG Street Party atmosphere.

This FREE event will have organised music, street entertainment, 28 craft stalls, plus food and drink vendors from noon into the evening.

Something for everyone, there is even a craft market of over 25 stalls and after 7pm until close at 11pm the entertainment will change gear to celebrate the theme of Fire, including taking part in the national lighting of a beacon at sunset. A 6m high beacon is being built especially! This will be accompanied by a Sunset ‘’Union’ flag lowering performed by HMS Sultan plus a salute firing of muskets and a 12lb Howitzer by the Fort Cumberland Guard, this is then followed by a patriotic concert and fire show; full running order will be announced soon.

With the musket and Howitzer firing there will be several very loud bangs, so please be aware.

The event will see the closure of Marine Parade from Milvil Road junction through to Cambridge Road from 10.00 and Pier Street will be closed from 08.00 including access via the Service Road; this will now be via Beach Road and this becomes two way traffic . There will also be part closure of Marine Parade car park as well as the whole of Flower Buildings carpark, these closures will allow the organisers to create a safe and secure area for the public to enjoy the event; this is from 00.01 on the 2nd. The closures will be from around will be through until finish allowing the public to safely disburse. (Click to see Traffic Management Information with road closures, diversions and car parks all approved with HCC and GBC Safety Advisory Group)

With car parking there’s the main beach road car park and the headland will be opened for additional parking if required, part of Marine Parade car park is open, so is Elmore and there's Hill Head as well.. There’s also street parking all available around the event area.

Based on the two previous events we’ve delivered, the uptake on the provided field parking wasn’t huge so we believe what’s being provided will be ok knowing the patterns from before on how people attended. The team are always learning to get the right balanced offering.

The orgainsers do ask that if you drive and park in the local side street that there is courtesy for other road users with sensible parking which will ensure there's NO OBSTRUCTION caused to residents and other traffic especially the bus service - PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON CORNERS, PARK ACROSS JUNCTIONS, DRIVEWAYS or ANY ACCESS.
